Here are some pictures of my progress in the garden. I transplanted my tomato and pumpkin seedlings from the dining room to the garden the other day, after spending a long time weeding and turning over the soil.
I also noticed that some of the lettuce and onion seeds I planted directly did manage to sprout, but they were surrounded by a million tiny weeds. I all but used a tweezer to clear the weeds away from these tiny plants.
It felt good to get out there and dig. It was cloudy and cool, the kids were playing nearby with my mother-in-law watching them (thanks!), and I was just reveling in the smells of grass and dirt and the spicy odor of certain weeds.
I don’t know if I’m going to put any more plants in; I really want to make sure I take care of these. I do, however, have a rose bush that my other mother-in-law gave me that I need to get in the ground ASAP. (I’m not a polyandrist; I have a stepmother-in-law.)
