Winter Throwback

Since last night we have had three inches of rain and it has been chilly. So basically today felt like one of those January or February snow days. The kids were inside all day. I threw some potatoes in the Crock-Pot in the morning as part of this mashed potatoes recipe; did three loads of wash; and baked chocolate chip cookies. Around 4 pm I decided rain or no rain, the kids were going outside, so they went and sloshed around in the gulley between my lot and my neighbor’s, which had turned into a little river. They had a blast, and warmed up with a bath afterwards, which threw them all off (“Do we have to go to bed now?”) Dinner was chicken piccata, the mashed potatoes and broccoli, and my oldest and youngest liked the chicken, which was heartening. (I didn’t make the sauce; nobody likes that but me.)

I also had a nice long catch-up conversation with my BFF, and my dad saved me from having to go out in the torrential rain to pick up my oldest from school. (Having a retired parent rocks.)

When my son walked in the door with my dad after school, I was pulling the last batch of cookies out of the oven. He was all like, “Cookies! Yes!” and grabbed one off the cooling rack. All that was missing was the apron 🙂

  1. Thank you 🙂 Just realized I forgot to mention that I was following another one of the Food Rules: “Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself.”
